Ture Waji, known as "The King of Guji", is the gentle ruler of Sookoo Cafe, located in Uraga and Shakisso Woredas. He has strong ties to the land, his community and the farmers, as he grew up in the area. After graduation, he started as an export and farm manager in his cousin Mormora's coffee farm and business, and at Guji Highlands Coffee. He was able to start Sookoo Coffee (formerly Dambi Uddo), thanks to the liberalization of trade and coffee in Ethiopia, by building his first washing station and exporting his first coffee under his own brand in 2018.
Ture Waji takes time between harvests to educate farmers on good agricultural practices to improve the quality of their cherries. His company offers pre-harvest loans to farmers who, for example, have to pay for labor to do farm maintenance, such as weeding and planting. Although we cannot establish a direct relationship, this access to finance should mean that smallholder farmers have to rely less on family members, including their children. The washing stations have a 'woman first' policy and the company has built a school for the children. Roads were also built to improve infrastructure.
